Certified Mail Return Receipt, explained
Return Receipt is the difference between proving you sent something and proving someone received it. Here is when that distinction matters, what the green card actually is, and what it costs.
What Return Receipt actually gets you
Certified Mail on its own produces a mailing receipt and a tracked delivery scan. Return Receipt adds one thing: a signature captured at the door, returned to you. That signature — with the date and the printed name of whoever accepted the letter — is what turns "I mailed it" into "they took it."
USPS keeps the delivery record for two years, but the signed receipt is yours to keep and attach to a filing, a claim, or a file note.
